چکیده

The adoption of large-scale antenna arrays at high-frequency bands is widely envisioned in the beyond 5G wireless networks. This leads to near-field regime where wavefront no longer planar but spherical, bringing new opportunities and challenges for communications positioning. In this paper, we improve positioning technology from classical spherical model (SWM) more accurate true electromagnetic propagation (EPM). A generic with different observation capabilities three electric field types (vector, scalar, overall scalar field) developed based on complete EPM. For these observed types, Cram\'er-Rao bound (CRB) adopted evaluate achievable estimation accuracy. expressions CRBs observations are derived by combining concepts theory. Closed-form can be further obtained as terminal assumed central perpendicular line (CPL) receiving surface. Moreover, above discussions extended system multiple antennas. case, using various derived, effect numbers antennas deeply investigated. Numerical results provided quantify validate analytical results. Also, impact parameters, including type, wavelength, size antenna, number antennas, evaluated.

Autonomous Positioning Techniques Based on Cramér-Rao Lower Bound Analysis

We consider the problem of autonomously locating a number of asynchronous sensor nodes in a wireless network. A strong focus lies on reducing the processing resources needed to solve the relative positioning problem, an issue of great interest in resourceconstrained wireless sensor networks. In the first part of the paper, based on a well-known derivation of the Cramér-Rao lower bound for the a...

Conditional and unconditional Cramér-Rao bounds for near-field source localization

Near-field source localization problem by a passive antenna array makes the assumption that the time-varying sources are located near the antenna. In this context, the far-field assumption (i.e., planar wavefront) is, of course, no longer valid and one has to consider a more complicated model parameterized by the bearing (as in the far-field case) and by the distance, named range, between the s...

Exact conditional and unconditional Cramér-Rao bounds for near field localization

This paper considers the Cramer-Rao lower Bound (CRB) for the source localization problem in the near field. More specifically, we use the exact expression of the delay parameter for the CRB derivation and show how this ‘exact CRB’ can be significantly different from the one given in the literature and based on an approximate time delay expression (usually considered in the Fresnel region). Thi...

Cramér-Rao bounds for synchronization of rotations

Synchronization of rotations is the problem of estimating a set of rotations Ri ∈ SO(n), i = 1 . . . N based on noisy measurements of relative rotations RiR > j . This fundamental problem has found many recent applications, most importantly in structural biology. We provide a framework to study synchronization as estimation on Riemannian manifolds for arbitrary n under a large family of noise m...

Cramér-Rao bounds for radar altimeter waveforms

The pseudo maximum likelihood estimator allows one to estimate the unknown parameters of Brown’s model for altimeter waveforms. However, the optimality of this estimator, for instance in terms of minimizing the mean square errors of the unknown parameters is not guarantied. Thus it is not clear whether there is some space for developing new estimators for the unknown parameters of altimetric si...
